Why the duck ? When I was a little girl, I was afraid of the water in the tub. My parents used to give me a yellow ducky to play with to help my overcome my fear. I realized I used to play around with it using my arms and legs. During my recovery I had another duck given to me; again to help me conquer my fear.

I started Arms and Legs foundation because of my experience with insurance concerning prosthetic devices.  When I lost my leg I found out that I had inadequate prosthetic insurance coverage. My insurance company only had a $1,500.00 yearly coverage with a $200.00 deductible. I thought “Why would they cover the amputation and then not the replacement?”

When given, I took the opportunity to change my policy.  That policy covered up to 50%, but had a cap of a $5,000.00 price for equipment.  Boil that down, they were only putting up $2,500.00; again, not close to adequate.

I was furious at the situation I had been put in.  After research, I found that there is assistance available for people that do not have any insurance, but nothing is out there for people who have partial coverage, and cannot afford the remaining balance for the device.

I vowed to do something about.  Arms and Legs Foundation was born.
